White K2500 with Illinois plates in Scio Township

Postby wrath » Sun Feb 10, 2013 9:23 am

I saw a white GMT800 K2500 with FIB plates and a sticker on it yesterday near the Meijer in Scio Township on Jackson/Old US12. Was surprised to see a sticker in granola country.

Crazy. I didn't know anyone was in lumber licking granola eater country besides me. I drive through there a lot to go to that Meijer. I think I saw you get on from Staebler or that industrial park there. I passed you then you passed me back.

I see a lot of MTU graduates at work, including some with 2meter plates, but none in Washtenaw County.

I like my half ton 6.0L. Wouldn't get one with the 4L70e though, the 6L80e is worth 2mpg across the board. Want to buy it? The new 6.2L has my attention. I also wouldn't get a GMT900 with drum brakes. I drove a 5.3L/6L80e a week ago at lunch and then when I drove my truck home I almost put my teeth in the steering wheel at the first light.

I am aiming for a 6.2 1/2 ton as well. I've found some seriously good deals on 2013 trucks on autotrader. Waiting for the money to start flowing (first paycheck is supposed to be tomorrow) before I make any decisions, but I think I'm gonna go the GMC 6.2 ECSB route for my next vehicle.

How much do you want for your truck though?

I just moved here a few months ago and am only renting a room near northville, when I look for my own place it will not be in Washtenaw county lol

6.2L gets terrible gas mileage in a truck (like 13 all the time). No 4 banger mode but it does have E85. The SUVs got AFM. It's the reason I got the 6.0L. You can definitely tell the 6.2L has 40 more horsepower though. If you want a 6.2L in a truck I'd wait for the DI 6.2L in the fall. I'd have to ask the old lady about getting a truck payment unless you're offering a lot. My truck is a Z60 (the replacement for the Vortec Max) which is basically the NHT (maximum trailering package) truck without the heavy rear springs but you get the 20" wheels.

IDK, they rate the 6.2's at 13 and 18, and the 5.3's at 14 and 19 from what I've been seeing. So far, Jeremiah's 5.3 isn't too far off of that if you don't drive 80 and use the skinny pedal. Millerstein claims he pulled 19 out of his 2500 6.0 (2008 I think) when babying it. Doesn't seem all that far fetched. No matter which way I go I don't want a DOD engine.

5.3L with the 6L80e isn't too bad. I almost bought one with the shorty (5.8') bed and extended cab with the 5.3L because there were only two 6.0L 6l80E extended cab shorties in the country before GM went bankrupt. There were also only two non-leather or non-AWD 6.2L extended cabs within 1,500 miles. With traction control and ESC turned off it could barely spin a tire. The truck I ordered wasn't going to be delivered until August and with the pending bankruptcy it probably would have never been delivered. So it was either an LTZ with NHT or one of half a dozen L76 trucks. Or if I wanted a crew cab there were dozens to choose from.

The 6.2L window stickers still say 12/18 and the 5.3L is up to 15/21 now.

I don't think I've seen anyone to claim to get 18 with a 6.2L without a tune, headers, and a tailwind. 20 is fairly easily attainable with my truck but the Dueler Alenza HTs eat about 1mpg.

The window sticker to my truck.

Displacement on demand is actually kind of nice. Already have the prone-to-fail VVT, so why not add cylinder deactivation?

I did some reading today and real world reports of 15-17 highway were not uncommon. About 13 in town. Everyone said the mpg sacrifice is worth it.

So what would you ask for if you were to try and sell it?

Mine is about 14.5 in the city if I drive like I usually do. Pretty easy to get 20mpg around town out of it though, but that's consciously trying to keep it in 4cylinder mode.

My truck is always at least 1.4mpg optimistic. It has never been less than 1 gallon off (put 21.5 gallons in, truck says I burned 20.5 gallons) Sometimes it is worse. On my commute in the winter it says I average 17mpg for a ~21 gallon tank. Well, it's more like 15.5mpg. Well in excess of the speed limit, cheap gas (87), and abuse of the remote start.

To be honest, I haven't looked into selling it because the 6.2L DI trucks aren't going to be out for at least six months. I'm not sure what it's worth. They only made the L76/6L80e for two years.
