Fiberglass

Postby Pjizzle » Thu Mar 24, 2011 3:34 pm

Im going to be painting my fiberglass clip here soon and was wondering if anyone had any advice from actually painting fiberglass. Im going to go over the clip with a rough to small grit sand paper to get as many chips out and then lay down a primer and then a final top coat. Would you suggest anything else?

i wouldnt worry too much about it. biggest thing id say is to make sure the paints been in the house for a few hours so that its warm and try to get the clip as warm as possible (heated garage or remove it and bring inside) so the paint sticks well.

Sand it with 400-600 grit, then scuff all the whole thing and get in the hard to get spots.

The bonding resin for most fiberglass is polyester resin, a type of plastic. Because of this I used that krylon paint that is designed for plastics to touch up my transom on my boat. It stuck very well. I need to do the whole boat with it.
