Ford starter sticking

Postby theking380 » Thu Jun 01, 2017 8:25 am

Having an issue with the bronco starter and wondering if anyone has seen this issue. The bendix engages and then stays stuck in the engaged position. Take the starter out and unstick the magnetic throw out lever thing on the side of the case. Once the throwout thing is out, the bendix moves freely on the shaft. I can put it back together, and it actuates freely. Put it back in, hit the starter and it sticks out again.

Im just gonna warranty the starter cause its got a lifetime (my annual starter warranty). But was curious if someone had seen this before.

Yes, on every Ford starter I've ever dealt with. Either sticks out or in and won't engage. The starter on the 460 stuck twice (warrantied it both times at CQ) and the starter on the 302 in my boat does it every other season and I have to warranty it. Very unhandy when it happens on the water, have to pull the tin cover off and push it by hand.
